If you thought Marvel Rivals would run out of characters anytime soon — think again. According to developers at NetEase, the upcoming team-based shooter has the green light to pull from 85 years of Marvel history, meaning literally thousands of heroes and villains could join the fight.
In an interview with VideoGamer, the devs confirmed they’re licensed to use characters from across Marvel’s entire comics legacy — from the A-list Avengers to the most obscure deep cuts. That’s a roster potential like no other in gaming right now.

With Marvel Rivals currently ramping up toward Season 3: The Abyss Awakens, some fans were wondering how long the game could keep up its momentum. Especially with Blade and Phoenix recently revealed as new additions, there were murmurs that Marvel might hit the bottom of the barrel.
The feedback from players and fans has been overwhelmingly positive
Chen said of the game’s current roster
But according to Creative Director Guangyun “Guangguan” Chen, that’s nowhere near the case. Not only is the dev team allowed to “explore the full Marvel universe,” but they also plan to mix fan-favorite icons like Iron Man and Captain America with lesser-known legends — like Jeff the Land Shark, who’s already playable.
To keep things fresh, NetEase has also confirmed that Marvel Rivals will drop one new character every month, with each season lasting two months. t.
