Valve has introduced a stricter enforcement policy over esports tournaments and is ready to impose sanctions on events that collaborate with gambling-related sponsors, including skin case-opening platforms. The new measures will affect tournament organizers for Counter-Strike and Dota 2.

Until now, Valve’s rules regarding intellectual property and sponsorship guidelines existed mostly in theory and were rarely enforced. However, the company now plans to actively punish tournaments that promote websites such as skin gambling or case-opening platforms.
Possible consequences include:
- Loss of official ranking or Major-qualifying status
- Revocation of broadcast or licensing approval
- Complete disassociation from Valve’s esports ecosystem
This policy shift may significantly affect the financial structure of esports, as many independent tournaments relied heavily on gambling sponsors.
Through these changes, Valve aims to clean up the esports environment, reduce exposure to “toxic sponsorship” and make competitive gaming more appealing to mainstream brands and younger audiences.
