The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) has accused Rockstar Games of engaging in union-busting after the company reportedly dismissed more than 30 employees at its UK and Canadian offices.
According to the union, many of those terminated were either active union members or involved in organizing efforts.
The incident has been described by the IWGB as “the most ruthless act of union-busting in the history of the UK games industry.” The union vows to pursue legal action to reinstate the dismissed workers and protect their rights.
The timing of the dismissals is significant: with GTA VI’s release now scheduled for 26 May 2026 – and just months away – the studio is under intense pressure. Some industry analysts view the firings as part of a broader pattern of labour disputes within high-budget game development.
The firings happen amid development pressure on Rockstar’s upcoming flagship title, and they raise broader concerns about labour practices in the global gaming industry.
