The launch of Borderlands 4 and the booming hardware sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 pushed U.S. video game spending to approximately $4.8 billion in the latest monthly charts.

According to market‑tracking firm Circana, Borderlands 4 debuted at number one and significantly boosted consumer interest across games content and console hardware.

Meanwhile, the Switch 2 continues to exceed expectations, driving a surge in new‑hardware demand. Together, these high‑profile releases helped fuel a strong month of spending, pointing to a healthy U.S. games market heading toward the holiday season.

Analysts note that while content spending remains vital, the hardware momentum from Switch 2 is especially remarkable—indicating that major console launches can still spark significant ripple effects across the ecosystem. The challenge ahead: sustaining that spending and ensuring upcoming titles maintain similarly strong traction.

However, analysts caution that sustaining this level of engagement will require ongoing content updates, strong back catalogue performance and minimal disruption.
