The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially outperformed the legendary PlayStation 4 in one of the most competitive metrics in gaming history — U.S. launch sales within the first three months.
According to industry analyst Mat Piscatella of Circana, Switch 2 sold approximately 2.4 million units in the United States during its debut quarter, edging past the PS4’s 2.2 million unit milestone.

The PlayStation 4 is widely regarded as one of the most commercially successful consoles of all time, and surpassing its launch pace marks a significant achievement for Nintendo. The Switch 2 not only exceeded PS4’s numbers by about 5%, but it also delivered the strongest launch in Nintendo’s modern hardware history.
Even more impressive, the Switch 2’s momentum is dramatically higher than the original Nintendo Switch, which itself was a major global success. At the same life-cycle stage, the Switch 2 is selling 77% faster, signaling a surge of consumer demand for hybrid console gaming.
Still, beating the PS4’s iconic launch run has turned industry attention back to Nintendo — a brand many believed had already peaked with its original Switch.
