U.S. Retailers Still Selling Xbox — Microsoft Calls Claims False

Microsoft has publicly denied growing rumors that major U.S. retail chains such as Target and Walmart have begun removing Xbox consoles and accessories from their shelves.

The speculation emerged after isolated social media reports and forum discussions suggested that Xbox sections in several stores were allegedly shrinking or disappearing altogether.

The controversy began when users online claimed that their local stores had either reduced or completely removed Xbox hardware displays.

Analysts suggest that temporary shelf gaps may simply reflect inventory cycles, holiday resets, or promotions favoring other products. With Microsoft focusing heavily on Game Pass and digital sales, it’s possible that physical visibility in stores fluctuates without signaling any withdrawal.

Despite viral rumors, Xbox remains firmly in major U.S. retail chains. No evidence supports a coordinated removal from Target or Walmart, and Microsoft insists its retail relationships are unchanged. For now, gamers can still expect to find Xbox hardware and accessories on store shelves as usual.
