Just weeks after launching globally on June 6th, Splitgate 2 is heading back into beta. Developer 1047 Games has acknowledged community criticism, citing an “unfinished product” and internal “boneheaded mistakes” as reasons for the reversal. The studio also announced cost-cutting layoffs and the upcoming shutdown of the original Splitgate’s servers.

In a candid joint statement, 1047 Games Co-Founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian accepted responsibility for the troubled release of Splitgate 2.
We launched too early. We were not ready. We made boneheaded mistakes and let you down
Player retention numbers back up the community’s concerns. According to SteamDB, Splitgate 2 has lost over 90% of its player base since launch. This dropoff has prompted a renewed development cycle that will see the game return to beta testing until at least early 2026.
The current state of the game doesn’t reflect our vision… We’ll use this beta period to get it right—with your help
In a further step toward consolidating development efforts, servers for the original Splitgate will be taken offline within a month. The original game helped 1047 Games gain traction with its unique “portal shooter” mechanics and had built a sizable fanbase during its early access phase in 2021.
Despite its beta status, Splitgate 2 will remain available to players. A Chapter 3 update is still planned, along with multiple bug fixes and technical improvements.
