Xbox Partners Up With AMD on Next-Gen Console Hardware

Microsoft has confirmed a strategic, multi-year partnership with AMD to co-develop the silicon for its next-generation Xbox hardware—including both home console and handheld devices—reinforcing the long-standing AMD relationship that has powered Xbox since the Xbox 360.

President Sarah Bond, this next wave of consoles will run Windows, support multiple game stores (not just the Microsoft Store), and retain full backward compatibility with existing Xbox games.

These upcoming devices are meant to blur the lines between console, PC, handheld, and cloud gaming, delivering enhanced visuals, AI-driven gameplay, and a seamless Xbox experience “not tied to a single device”.

The announcement comes alongside the debut of the Windows-based Xbox Ally handheld partnership with ASUS, creating a unified Xbox ecosystem across various platforms.
